GERD, which stands for Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a fatal situation, aids that once are found in the stomach move backward into the esophagus which is that action is called reflux. But when GERD is subjected to an elderly person, the circumstances are more serious than younger people. GERD attacks mostly those who have had a heavy meal causing an unwanted heartburn when they lay down for a nap or from the waist bends. People snaking when it is time for bed is high at risk for heartburn. Other victims are pregnant women that are defenseless when it comes to GERD. Primarily in their third trimester, when the growing uterus puts escalating pressure on the stomach they are subjected to heartburn. Heartburn in such cases is often resistant to dietary interventions and even antacids.

 

The mainstay for treating GERD is acid suppression. The aim of drug therapy is to reduce the amount of acid present and improve any abnormalities in muscle function of the lower esophagus sphincter, the esophagus, or the stomach. Most cases of gastroesophageal reflux are mild and can be managed with lifestyle changes and over-the-counter medications and antacids.
